Brendan Rodgers faces a must-win game on Wednesday evening as he takes his Liverpool team to Championship high-flyers Bournemouth in the pursuit of a League Cup semi-final spot.
The pressure continued to mount on the under-fire Reds boss on Sunday, when he saw his team beaten 3-0 at arch rivals Manchester United. With Liverpool having also crashed out of the Champions League last week, their fans are desperate for something to cheer about.
Liverpool are tenth in the Premier League, having already lost seven times this season – more than in the entirety of their 2013-14 campaign. They have won just two of their last eight games, while they are also on a five game winless run in Europe.
Their only real success so far this season as come in the League Cup, where they’ve beaten Middlesbrough on penalties, and Swansea City – with Mario Balotelli even managing to get his name on the scoresheet in the latter game.
Bournemouth are top of the Championship, having won seven and drawn three of their last ten games. They sit above Middlesbrough on goal difference in a congested top half of the table, and will fancy their chances of an upset.
